Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) Ballista

Random Ballista

Here’s Your Legit Duel

I hate it when people think of Ballista as a one on one duel.  It’s not.  It’s a “sport” based on teamwork.  I do admit, however, that back in the days, I played a million one on one duels, which honed part of my current skill.  I can’t say this for other people, though.  Their “duels” are… pathetic.  For instance, let’s take this ancient video of Delequeer (I don’t remember where I got it from, but I’m pretty sure that a friend gave it to me).  Just watch a few seconds of it—any more and your brain will disintegrate.

Semi-ADD

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m lazy.  Extremely lazy.  But—trust me—that’s not my only good quality.  Hell no.  I also have a low attention span.

So I was just chillin’ in Jugner Forest until I saw the most random thing ever.  A flippin’ bunny just hops past me.  “The fuck was that?”

Cannot Use Fraps

I’m bored.  In fact, I’ve been bored for the longest time, but through this boredom, I came across one of my attempts of recording a Diorama match when my team and I were still on Siren.  (Link to the video)

322 Ballista Points—Really?

I consider myself a modest person.  I don’t blatantly brag about my gear or how badass I am like most people do—well, not usually anyway.  Yes, I do have a small gallery of some of my augments for display, but honestly, if I was truly happy—or even satisfied for that matter—with any of them, I probably would have stopped augmenting a long time ago.  Believe me when I say ” a long time.”  Hell, I probably would have been able to get a relic, but instead, I spend all of my gil augmenting items for Ballista.  And I still do.  And never get anything good.  Like I said before, I have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than getting anything useful.  I know.  I rant.  But you probably do the same.  So we’re even [Stevens].

I don’t [normally] praise myself, but I do for others.  Scoring 295 B.P. wasn’t good enough for this kid, so he went higher and finally broke 300.  22 over 300.  This isn’t Sparta anymore.  And I’m guessing 400 is next on the hit list.

Nice Bot

The matches were decently sized this morning, but in the case of Ballista, I would choose quality over quantity.  Both teams were unorganized [to my standards], and no one strictly followed another’s target.  It’s difficult to play when I feel like I’m soloing the entire team.  Also, the THF on my team missed God knows how many GB opportunities.  With both Reparateur and I in the same party as him, it was raining GB, but he missed so many that he had 12 petra at one point.  Great job.

So apparently, Lilyrose uses a bot that returns three examines to whoever checks her.  This princess must think that she’s so important that she needs to use such a laughable contraption.  I guess the times that she returned examines to me were all automated.  Nice bot.  Because it’s so useful.

Lakshmi = Fenrir+1?

Although I recently moved to Lakshmi with a few of my friends, I already noticed some overlapping traits between [some of] the people from this server and Fenrir.  Simply put, they have quite the attitude (stuck up), but—of course—this only applies to a select few, namely Lilyrose.  On the other hand, Lakshmi does have respectable players, such as Varier, who make the server a better place in the name of Ballista.

I solemnly swear that I don’t normally call people out, but I can hardly remember the last time I met a JP in Ballista with this kind of disgusting behavior.  I only checked him once, and he returned the favor with a stream of multiple examines.  Believe me, that was far from the first time he approached me with that kind of mannerism; otherwise, I wouldn’t be showing such disdain and antipathy.  This is proof that JP are people, too.

That, however, was only a fraction of his character.  During a recent Meriphataud Mountains match, where T and I were on the losing team and Lilyrose on the winning, he remarked (in JP), “teishi’s power, let me see it !!”  Clearly, he was using his temporary advantage to ridicule and mar our image.  These guys are glory hunters; they want (but lack) the fame, the acknowledgment, and recognition that we’ve already established [Ballista] server-wide

Our reputation definitely preceded us, as it had already swept across the JP Ballista community before our transfer.  Honestly, though, most of these people seem unable to accept the fact that not all NA play Ballista like those from Fenrir.

♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦

These guys routinely single us NA out as if we were doing something wrong or served as a nuisance in this particular case.  Regardless of where we go, we always end up having to prove ourselves to these scornful racists.  I didn’t witness it because I was dead, but T said that when Irvines finally reached the the rook, he used Shadowbind right before the first round of Meriphataud ended.  Irvines {Fenrir} {That way} {Do you need it?}.  The first round ends at 7:33 (game time).  Get it right, man.

♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦

The unfortunate part (for them) is that they’re nowhere near Siren level gameplay, yet they talk and act as though they’ve transcended Gods.  (The last time I saw a Haubergeon in Ballista was when Temadian was going bonkers on Siren with his Voyager Sallet.) This garbage attitude needs to go where it belongs: in the garbage.

Even Rep, a fellow JP, thinks ill of some of the players here.  During one instance, he wanted to rearrange the party setups.  The Lakshmi JPs didn’t want to cooperate or something of that sort, so he booted them out of the party in order to reform a more effective setup.  For some reason, this guy called Wildsoul got offended[?] and never rejoined the alliance for the remainder of the game.  Sorry, pal, but {Fenrir} is {That way}.

I can’t wait until our next Diorama match because I’m about to go haywire.

Where Is Everyone?

We were supposed to play another LS vs LS match last night, but only a few people showed up.  Even GanBallistar was lacking members, and we only had a total of 8 players from both linkshells.  Eventually, we grew tired of waiting and started a regular game (auto-balanced) hopes that more people will log on or become more interested later.  Two hours after the scheduled game time, more people finally came in the picture, but we still didn’t have enough players in our LS to have an LS vs LS game.  Instead, we continued to play regular games of 5:5.

Time between matches were mostly consumed by people being unable to decide the job setup, but after an hour of chitchat, the JP finally concluded with WAR, DRG, MNK, WHM, and RDM.  The most ridiculous part of this nonsense was that Kyanos played [/was forced to play(?)] WHM.  It was his first time playing it—I mean, the guy didn’t even have SCH sub leveled—and the JP put him up against Elegy’s WHM, which can take T’s WHM head on.  Because of the difference in skill, Kyanos’s team lost every round while he was WHM.  I didn’t know who recommended/forced him to take on that job, but it was an inconsiderate move and completely offset the balance of the games.

When the Diorama reservation came to its end and Jugner Forest’s official match was about to start, people started popping out of nowhere.  Thanks, guys.  You were only four hours late.  The game resulted in a 13:13 match and a final score of 281 – 240.

Late night Jugner Forest match.  It was held during JP hours, so it was a decent-sized game of 13:13.  If only these guys logged on a few hours earlier…

Maneuvers, Tricks, Lag, and More

I’m embarrassed to admit that we’ve accumulated 13 consecutive losses in the past two months with our win to lose ratio shooting from 9 – 3 to 9 – 16.  Working with different team setups can be a hassle, but updating our new members about our general Diorama strategies is our next step towards victory.  Aside from discussing strategies, we also need to improve our battle skill by adapting to the in-game lag and to different styles of play (difference race/gear setups).  Regardless of how experienced a player is, he can always better his battle skill in one way or another.  Adopting the cliche “practice makes perfect,” we occasionally polish our skills in Diorama by fighting against each other, and according to T, we should be able to beat each other roughly 50% of the time.

A Life Lesson

I hope you guys learned something from this.  Don’t fuck with Buster.  By the way, that’s a nice Santa hat you have there, T.
